Our #ThreeQuotes feature returns by popular demand this week. Today’s theme: weddings.
We begin with a joke
Hollywood brides keep the bouquets and throw away the grooms.
- Groucho Marx
The more things change the more they stay the same, I suppose. While researching for this article (thanks WikiQuote) I was saddened, though not at all surprised, that cynicism is predominant in current thought about weddings. It’s too bad. Maybe if marriage was taken a little more seriously they’d be seen as the unadulterated beautiful things they are.
Who are you anyway?
Better be a desperate single with many options than a desperate married with no option.
- Amen Muffler
See what I said about cynicism? Amen Muffler sounds more like a Christian auto mechanic shop than the name of anyone I should take seriously anyway. This sentiment may have some truth to it, but becoming “desperate” in a marriage situation is almost always the couple not wanting to work hard enough to make things any better – and not understanding that they’ll always be in love. Real love transcends simply being in love.
A story
Recently, I was in Bernalda, my dad's ancestral home town in Italy. He has just refurbished a palazzo and turned it into a hotel, so we had my sister's wedding there. It was beautiful.
- Roman Coppola
Whoa, nice.
