Too many pitchers, that's all, there are just too many pitchers Ten or twelve on a team. Don't see how any of them get enough work. Four starting pitchers and one relief man ought to be enough. Pitch 'em every three days and you'd find they'd get control and good, strong arms.

Never forget Deacon White
This is the 1882 team photo of the National League’s Detroit Wolverines. The following year they would set the record for giving up the most runs in one inning, 18, that still stands today. Two years later owner Frederick Kimball Stearns bought the entire Buffalo Bisons to create a “super team.” Grumpy owners duly changed the rules, forcing him to sell off his stars in the middle of the season.

The MLB strike of 1994 did practically irreparable damage. It led many, including myself, to give up on baseball (and even sports) due to the greed of players and owners. It’s hard to have sympathy for anyone making more money in one year than I’ll make in a lifetime as they bicker over their millions.
The ’94 Expos were an unfortunate casualty in the strike-shortened season. They were one of the top teams in baseball and had a good chance to win the World Series for the first time in their existence. Alas, the mid-season strike ended that dream, and they ended up moving to Washington in 2004. This Reader’s Digest of their 1994 campaign gives a good overview of the sad situation.
