Our second edition of Quote/Picture/Video (#QPV) honors Bob Dylan. He will be receiving the 2015 MusiCares award this weekend.
On pretense
I think a poet is anybody who wouldn’t call himself a poet
-Bob Dylan
I puke in my soup (copyright George Carlin) every time I hear someone call themselves an “artist” or a “poet” or claim that the music they listen to is “art.” Sure, it is, or at least can be, but those who emphasize it are usually the furthest thing from it. One of my favorite bits was when my buddy Will Farley would ask pretentious college kids what they like better, music or art. The responses were varied but always hilarious.
In this quote Dylan is calling out this type of pretense.
We can be heroes
