Celebrating the Rolling Stones concert at Target Field tonight with #ThreeSongs from them.
Dandelion
The Stones are a lot more than their gritty, tough guy image. For example, the first successful Jagger-Richards track was dark ballad “Play With Fire.” There’s also their melodic mid-60s material, including “Out of Time,” “She’s a Rainbow,” and “Dandelion.” The backing vocals, harpsichord, and the heavy, perfectly out of place drumming carry the last of these along.
Sway
Sway
The gritty, dirty blooze rock of “Sway” exemplifies the dark places the Stones explored on Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street. I sing “It’s just that demon life that’s got me in its sway” along with Jagger and Richards pretty often. More pounding drums from Charlie Watts, who I'm starting to think is underrated.

Doom and Gloom
One of the great injustices in music today is the constant neglect of creative, worthwhile new music by popular artists from the past. This song was ignored upon its release in 2012 but it's classic Stones. It has a swagger reminiscent of the sometimes overlooked late '70s era of the band and a vintage Richards riff. And Jagger's lyrics are among his edgiest: Lost all that treasure in an overseas war/It just goes to show you don't get what you paid for/Bowing to the rich and worrying about the poor/Put my feet up on the couch and lock all the doors/Hear a funky noise/That's the tightening of the screws/feeling kinda hurt/sitting in the dirt/all I hear is doom and gloom.
