Giving Johnny Cash his due with a #QuotePictureVideo on what would have been his 83rd birthday.
I wore black because I liked it. I still do, and wearing it still means something to me. It's still my symbol of rebellion -- against a stagnant status quo, against our hypocritical houses of God, against people whose minds are closed to others' ideas.
The Old Testament prophets always admonished their cultures for injustice and hypocrisy. Musicians, good ones at least, are prophets. Although their individuality is important it is more important that they convey truth to the world. Johnny Cash was a prophet of the highest order.

Cash recorded “Chicken in Black” when country radio turned their back on him in the early ‘80s. It’s silly irreverence is endearing and its rebellious attitude – one of real rebellion, even if in the form of humor – is genuine Johnny Cash. An underrated gem.
